Lullaby in the Reeds
A free tenor sax piece at Level 2 for practising eighth notes. Print it, play along at three speeds, and share it with your students.
When to use this piece
Use it when a student's eighth notes are uneven, when they first meet two notes to a beat, or to build steady fingers.
How to practise it
- Count '1 and 2 and' while tapping the beat with your foot.
- Play along at 60% and keep every pair even.
- Step up to 80%, then 100%, only when the pairs stay even.
Teacher tip. Have the student play the eighth-note bars staccato first, then legato. Evenness shows up quickly when notes are detached.
