Dorian's Jig

A free recorder piece at Level 2 for practising scales. Print it, play along at three speeds, and share it with your students.

When to use this piece

Use it to put scale work into real music, or when runs are uneven or rushed.

How to practise it

  1. Play the scale of the piece's key once, slowly.
  2. Find the scale runs in the score and play them alone.
  3. Play the whole piece along at 60%, then faster.
Teacher tip. Practise each run starting from its last note backwards, adding one note at a time. Endings get as much practice as beginnings.
