This week, I wanted to share my thoughts on the ever-expanding yoga space. As the corporate yoga world continues to evolve, how do we know which path is right for us?
First and foremost, yoga is a lifelong journey, an ongoing relationship with yourself. When committing to this effortful path, as described in the Yoga Sutras, it’s essential to establish how much time you can realistically dedicate to your practice.
If you have just 20 minutes a day, online on-demand classes might be the best option for you. They allow you to practice at your own pace, in a comfortable environment, and at a time that fits your schedule. This approach is great for building consistency, practicing little and often without the pressure of making it to a class.
As your practice deepens, you may start craving one-on-one feedback or a more immersive experience. This is where live classes, whether online or in-studio, come into play. Let’s explore the differences between the two:
-
In-Studio Classes: Practicing in a studio connects you with a community, offers variety, and may even include hands-on adjustments (if desired). There’s an energy in practicing alongside others that can be incredibly motivating and fun.
-
Live Zoom Classes: Since teachers can’t physically adjust you, their verbal cueing tends to be more precise, helping you refine your practice. It also encourages deeper body awareness, as you must focus on your own alignment without external distractions.
From my experience, in-person classes are great for keeping things light hearted and they allow me to explore moving my body in new ways, while Zoom classes offer more specific cueing, enhancing my personal growth and development. Ultimately, the right choice depends on your goals, preferred learning style, and the experience you seek.
Regardless of the format, consistency and devotion are key. Building relationships with teachers is always beneficial, whether online or in person, don’t hesitate to show up, ask questions, and engage with your instructor. They are there to support you on your path!
I hope this post inspires you to try something new. My personal favorite online platform is OmStars, where incredible teachers cater to both beginners and seasoned practitioners. Shoutout to my teacher Monica Arelleno, who teaches live Zoom classes every Tuesday—you might even see me practicing alongside you!
And if you’re in the South Bay CA, come join me for one of my hot Vinyasa and drills-inspired classes or juicy restorative Yin at Core Power Yoga!
I’d love to hear from you—comment below or on our socials about your favorite platform, whether online or in-person. And as always, remember to like, share, and keep practicing! Maybe see you online or at the studio soon!
